BORROWING

The borrowing unit develops every kind of services to ensure that the readers benefit from the Yaşar University Library collection, enables the readers easily access any publications they are interested, follows up the borrowed material to make sure that they are returned to the library, makes available all visual and audial tools, equipment and materials for use and ensures that the reader halls and book shelves are properly arranged and kept in order. The undergraduate students can borrow 3 published material offered by the Library and Information Center for a duration of 15 days at most and are allowed to benefit from time extension of 10 days two times. The post-graduate/doctorate students and administrative staff can borrow 5 books with duration of 21 days at most and are allowed to use time extension of 15 days 2 times. And the Academic personnel can borrow 10 books with duration of 30 days at most and is allowed to use time extension of 15 days 2 times. In case any borrowed library item gets lost, the user must renew it if it is available on the market. In addition, laptop computers are available by 5:000 p.m. subject to the condition they are used inside the library only. Users cannot use the references, gazettes, dissertations and periodical outside of the library.

TECHNICAL SERVICES

The publications at Yaşar University’s Library and Information Center are sorted out by their subjects by using LC (Library of Congress) classification system and arranged in the shelves according to the open shelf system. An appropriate subject heading is assigned to each publication according to LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings), which are used with Turkish translated versions. International Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2 apply to the publications that are took over by the library by using cross-check method, and the publications are catalogued in offered for use electronic media with their bibliographical tags. Cataloguing consists of three main functions: the first one is the cataloguing and classification, which involves identification of the author and work and assignment of the subject headings and classification numbers. The second main function of the cataloguing is physically preparing the material for use involving the preparation of back tags and writing of the place numbers. The third main function involves the maintenance of the catalogue records kept at the University, and deals with arrangement of the lost or damages publications. Book request form, book index by the floors, A-Z table, collective catalogue and Adding Manual Link are available at the 1st floor of our periodicals library. The reviews are alphabetically arranged by the open shelf system. The periodicals cannot be borrowed for use outside of the university. There are 61 printed reviews in our periodicals catalogue. Besides, users can access thousands of reviews over the databases.

ILL

Provides any information source that is not available at YÜ Library and Information Center but may be need by Yaşar University members, by borrowing it from the other domestic libraries and information centers. ILL service is available for the academic and administrative personnel. The books can be borrowed with durations of 2, 3 or 4 weeks. And the post-graduate and doctorate students can use this service via İzmir Inter-University cooperation platform. Please e-mail to [email protected] for further information and making a request.

ELECTRONIC SOURCES

The electronic resources office evaluates the requests made for the sources and reviews the suitable sources for trial access, and reports them by analyzing the content and evaluations. Then the appropriate procedures are implemented for the e-resources decided to be provided, and they are made available for the users. Among its major responsibilities are to provide continuous access to all electronic resources available at our collection and resolve any access problems, to evaluate the use of the Subscribed/purchased e-resources by using statistical methods and report the results, to introduce the E-resources and plan promotional and training activities to increase their usage, and to carry out budgeting and payment operations for the electronic resources.
